There’s a big sawmill on the outskirts of Masterton that’s one of the heaviest electricity users in the Wairarapa. Other mills – Winstone in Ruapehu, Carter Holt in Nelson and Tokoroa, Oji in Tokoroa and Auckland, Juken in Gisborne – may have bowed to rising energy prices and shut their doors, laying off hundreds of workers. But not this one. This Juken mill has survived.
