New carbon forestry land restrictions only ‘palliative’ – watchdog

In an attempt to avert a carbon credit value crash and preserve valuable farmland, the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment argues tree planting should only be used to offset NZ agricultural emissions, not global fossil fuel burning.

Submitting on a forestry conversion amendment bill, Simon Upton says this would keep land-use decisions in the hands of landowners.
