The Government has today announced New Zealand’s second international emissions reduction target under the Paris Agreement, covering the period 2031 to 2035. The country will reduce its emissions by 51 to 55 per cent compared to 2005 levels, by 2035.
The Paris Agreement is the global climate treaty which seeks to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Under the Agreement, each country sets targets for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, known as Nationally Determined Contributions. More information on New Zealand’s second Nationally Determined Contribution can be found on the MFE website.
